The time came when I needed challenge the beast. All that I ever came to know or love depended on this. Armed with only a blade, forged of reason, and a shield of ideals; I climbed the fortress walls into the night. The stone walls, settled through the years, were cold and hard. The passages were dark. The monster was hidden and unknown. Now close I could feel its presence in my mind and soul and hear its breaths through its worn fangs. I needed to lower my shield to swing, show myself to strike, but_ the moment had to be just right. The only way out was to run through the dark halls without light.
